Description
ITIUK’s Deadweight Testers are exact primary standards and serve as reference devices for calibration services. They are ideal for testing, adjusting, and calibrating pressure-measuring instruments without requiring an external reference device. The main components of DWTs include:
- A measuring system.
- Valve units.
- A spindle unit for fine pressure adjustment.
- A set of weights.
The measuring system comprises a finely lapped piston/cylinder pair. The local gravitation of the weights pushes down a weight-loaded piston. The test pressure generated and adjusted by the spindle pump acts towards the piston surface area from below the test pressure. This test pressure increases until the hydraulic force of the medium on the piston surface area (acting from below) balances the weight force of the piston/weight system, and the forces reach an equilibrium state. During this state of equilibrium, the piston floats freely in the cylinder.
The weights are standardized to simplify handling based on the determined piston surface area and local gravity at the installation site. A discreetly graduated set of weights is available in different pressure units such as bar, Pa, and psi.
The piston and weights rotate with a motor while floating to minimize the influence of static friction of the piston and cylinder and to ensure a sensitive discrimination threshold.
